Nieuwegeins Peil: a night of inspiring local talent

Updated: Oct 11, 2019

Last Thursday (September 26th, 2019) I was invited to take some photos at an event organised by the central library in Nieuwegein...and I just can't tell you how excited I was when I got the invitation for doing this! It was the second time I had the opportunity to be part of such a project, being there behind my camera, enjoying the work of local artists in a friendly atmosphere. Nieuwegeins Peil was a beautiful and well-attended evening, full of music, literature, paintings and other forms of visual arts, where authors presented work inspired by stories of their past, the elderly or by previous generations, mostly about first experiences such as learning to ride a bike in the Netherlands, going on holiday alone, attending school or how inspiring a mum can be.

Some of the authors who read that evening were: Annelie van Dijk, Azar Tishe, Els Kerkhoven, Hens Hauer, Ingrid van Tellingen, Louise Mastenbroek, Mark Boog, Monique Kleinjan, Monique Willemse, Naomi Wijling, Thera van der Horst, Luz de los Reyes, Ton de Gruijter, Wim Hartog and Youssef Jahfa. While art from Christa Kruger, Ellen Slegt, Hans Pekelharing, Jet van Swieten, Joke Bijnsdorp, Lisa Peters-Esvelt, Meriam Schinkel, Monique Elbers, Ria Pronk and Sissi Pap was exhibited that evening but can still be seen at de Tweede verdieping.

#Nieuwegeins #Peil was a collaboration between the library de Tweede verdieping with #KunstGein, #MOvactor, de #Zonnebloem and #Zorgspectrum. This project came about with support from the municipality of #Nieuwegein and the K.F. Heinfonds. It struck me to find so much talent gathered around in such a tiny multicultural city, go Nieuwegeiners!
