Mermaids in synchro, girl power on FULL display!

Last November, I had the pleasure to take some photos of the girls of the Aquarijn synchronised swimming team during a training session. I've watched synchro swimming routines only in the TV -during the Olympics or so- but seeing these hard working athletes performing live in the pool was a treat. There’s something almost magical and mesmerizing about watching a perfectly timed, precisely synchronised swimming routine, complete with beautiful long lines and extended legs. However, behind the creation of that beautiful performance, is a group of athletes who worked tirelessly to create that piece of art and athleticism: it takes a lot of strength, finesse, lung capacity and skill.

The girls spent hours in the pool trying over and over again to get every movement, every maneuver, perfectly timed, stopping to hear their coaches before heading back into the water without forgetting to smile. I'm quite impressed with this young team!

Luckily, @Aquarijn invited me to photograph their next show: 'Aladdin', on February 16th in Merwestein (for more info about the event click here). I can't wait to shoot again a session of these incredible mermaids, of a sport full of patterns, symmetry, synchrony and beauty in the water.
